Base Compensation

$28.00 to $30.00 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

Terrapex is searching for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineering Technician (Level 3) to join our growing team and reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager – Geotechnical Services. This position is mainly related to geotechnical investigation projects.

Working under the leadership and support of our geotechnical services Line and geotechnical staff in Ottawa, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with scoping, project planning, developing budget, executing, scheduling, and liaise with clients.
  • Review and interpret the results from geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
  • Directly responsible for the health and safety of any person working on an assignment; conduct project site inspections to ensure compliance with all safety and government regulations.
  • Oversee multiple geotechnical projects simultaneously.
  • Assisting senior staff for engineering analysis, design and reporting.
  • Supervision of field investigations (drilling and soil sampling) to acquire appropriate data.
  • Experienced in geotechnical and materials engineering on a wide variety of projects including commercial, industrial, infrastructure and others.
  • Knowledge in construction monitoring and inspection on projects including, excavations, subgrade and shallow foundation inspections, pile installation monitoring, embankment performance monitoring, etc.
  • Installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Preparation of technical borehole records, field reports and assisting with the preparation of geotechnical data reports and proposals.
  • Willingness to travel within Ontario including working in conjunction with other Terrapex offices.
  • Maintain and develop client relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Experience:

  • Degree from an accredited university in Geological, Geotechnical, or Civil (geotechnical option) Engineering;
  • Engineer-In Training (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario and working towards his Professional License.
  • A minimum of 3 – 6 years of diverse geotechnical engineering and inspection and testing experience;
  • Working knowledge of MTO, CSA, CCIL and ASTM procedures is preferred but not required,
  • Strong written and communication skills are a must;
  • Attention to details;
  • Ability to problem solve;
  • Ability to work in all outdoor climates and mobility over various terrain;
  • Valid Driver’s License; and
  • Knowledge of local geotechnical conditions and the regional market.

Exceptional candidates lacking one or more of the above qualifications may also be considered.
